Life Legacy

Allen Tipton, 88, of Clark, passed way Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Clark.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday at Furness Funeral Home in Clark. Visitation will resume at 12:00 noon Tuesday at the church until the time of the service.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, in Clark, SD with Reverend Jen Tyler Officiating. Organist will be Wanda Bethke with special music by the Fischer Family. Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery following the funeral service. The casketbearers will be Larry Brannan, Tom Hallberg, David Boehnke, Marlin Fjelland, Doug Loomis and Bob Seefeldt. Honorary Casketbearers will be Allen and Roberta Smith, Ed and Mary Lou Hallberg, Shirley and Rod Dreher, Vernon, Vance and Bonnie, Neuberger, Cliff Dekker, Bob and Bonnie Boehnke, Robert and Janice Nordhus and Dorothy Peterson.

Wilburn Allen Tipton was born on June 27, 1924 on the family farm near Clark, the son of Guy and Rachel (Allen) Tipton. He attended country school in Darlington Township and Clark High School. He started farming with his father on the farm he was born on until they purchased a farm 8 miles south of Clark in 1941. He was united in marriage to Shirley Schrader on October 13, 1951 at Clark Center Lutheran Church, north of Clark. To this union they were blessed with two children, Scott and Sheryl. Allen continued to farm until 1992. Allen & Shirley continued to live on the farm until 1996 when they moved into Clark.

Allen was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men, and was a church usher for many years. Allen was also a past Darlington Township board member, a member of the Senior Citizens Center, and the Visually Impaired Group in Clark. Allen was very instrumental in starting the Meals on Wheels program in Clark and was the first person to deliver a meal. He continued to deliver meals once he moved to town. Allen enjoyed hunting, bowling and playing card games.

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of 61 years, Shirley, of Clark, SD; daughter, Sheryl Tipton, of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother-in-law, Howard Schrader; one sister-in-law, Beverly (Loren) Haug and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Scott and two sisters, Marcella (Milo) Loomis and Marjorie (Edwin) Seefeldt.
