Meet Our Dedicated Staff
Staff members of Furness Funeral Home are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff. Our staff consists of Greg Furness, Licensed Embalmer/Funeral Director, Kelsey Reif, Licensed Embalmer/Funeral Director, Brenda Jenkins, Office Manager/Funeral Assistant/Funeral Planner, and Joan Furness, who assists daily.

Kelly grew up in Bowman, North Dakota. After graduating from Bowman High School in 1986, he attended Bismarck State College and received an Associate of Arts degree. He then spent 18 years in law enforcement in North Dakota. In 2000, Kelly attended and received his degree in Mortuary Science from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois, outside of Chicago. After graduating in 2001, he returned to Beulah, North Dakota, where he was employed by Seibel Funeral Homes.
Kelly, his wife Bonnie, and their children, Megan and Adam, moved to Redfield, and he started working for Thelen Funeral Home in May of 2006. On December 1, 2015, Kelly and Bonnie purchased Hyke Funeral Home from Pat Thelen. On September 1, 2023, Kelly merged with Pioneer Enterprises, Inc., an employee-owned affiliation of South Dakota and Wyoming funeral directors who promote local ownership and management, becoming an employee owner and Managing Partner. In October, Kelly joined the staff at Furness Funeral Home as the Managing Partner.
Kelly is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in both North Dakota and South Dakota. He is currently the President of the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association and serves on the Executive Board. Kelly currently serves as Spink County Coroner.
Community service is very important to Kelly. He is a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, where he serves on the Parish Council, is an Eucharistic Minister, and sings in the church choir. Kelly is also a member of the Redfield Kiwanis, the Redfield Knights of Columbus, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Kelly previously served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 128 and Unit Commissioner for Sioux Council Boy Scouts. Kelly also serves as the Sexton for St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery.

Emerald Groven began working at Furness Funeral Home as a Funeral Director and the Assistant Manager as of October 1st, 2024. She is excited to become a member of the Clark community and serve the families within Clark County.
She began working for Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings in 2015 as a mortuary science student at Des Moines Area Community College. She graduated in August of 2016 with an advanced degree in mortuary science and became a licensed funeral director in South Dakota in January of 2018. Emerald is a graduate of the University of South Dakota, earning her Bachelor's Degree in General Studies, as well as her Master's Degree in Adult Education.
Originally from Mason City, Iowa, Emerald enjoyed living in Brookings, SD for 17 years prior to moving to Clark. She has one son, Braydon. Emerald is a member of Chapter B.O. P.E.O. On January 1, 2023, Emerald became a partner in Pioneer Enterprises, an employee-owned affiliation of South Dakota and Wyoming funeral directors who promote local ownership and management. She enjoys spending time with her dogs, Cooper and Remi, working on crafts, and being creative in her free time.

Brenda serves on the Rose Hill Cemetery Board and is a member of the Raymond Legion Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoys making crafts and doing volunteer work for the school, PDR Youth Hunt, and various other groups.

After five years of operating the business, Mr. Furness purchased the firm in July of 1995 and joined with Pioneer Enterprises, Inc., a regional employee-owned operation. Since that time, he had been the managing partner of the firm. Furness is a 1975 graduate of Clark High School and received his Degree in Mortuary Science from Cypress College in Cypress, CA. Greg is a member of the Clark County Historical Society, Clark Rotary Club, Clark Area Community Foundation, Clark Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the Prairie Lakes Hospital Foundation and Clark Alumni Association. He is a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Furness Funeral Home is pleased to announce that Greg Furness, after nearly fifty years in funeral service, has retired from the day-to-day activities of the funeral home. Greg will still assist with services when he is available. Greg will continue his ownership for the next five years through a continued association with Pioneer Enterprises, Inc., an employee-owned affiliation of South Dakota and Wyoming funeral directors who promote local ownership and management.

She is very active in the Clark Community, serving several boards and organizations including Rotary, the American Legion, the Rose Hill Cemetery Board, and is an active member of Clark United Methodist Church.
Dala enjoys visiting friends and family, volunteering in the community, and spending time with her cat, Lou.

Originally from the Crocker area, Dala has been a member of the Furness Funeral Home team for several years. A lifelong member of Clark county, Joan has held many roles throughout the community. She is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoys staying active by helping the funeral home with day to day tasks.

Frank Krumm started working for Hyke Funeral Home in February 2016 as our Transportation Specialist and Funeral Assistant. In July 2023, Frank joined us full-time as our Pre-Planning Specialist while assisting in most areas of funeral service. On September 1, 2023, Frank also joined the staff at Furness Funeral Home as a Pre-Planning Specialist / Funeral Assistant.
Frank is a retired member of the South Dakota Highway Patrol and also served as the Spink County Sheriff. He is currently a Deputy Coroner for Spink County.
He enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was married for 30 years to his best friend, Sue, who passed away in 2018.
